The Knox County Coroner has released names of the people involved in the fatal collision on Knox Highway 4, on Friday, March 1, 2024. They are:
- Mariliel Slightom, 38, of Toulon was pronounced deceased at the scene.
- Charles Slightom, 41, of Toulon was injured and transported from the scene.
- Ariel Harlan, 24, of Toulon was injured and transported from the scene.
- Joshua Zuelly, 38, of Toulon was treated on the scene.
- There was also a juvenile passenger who was not injured.
Charles Slightom was cited for Disobeying a Traffic Control Device, Driving While License Suspended, Driving Under the Influence (a)(2), Operating Uninsured Vehicle, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, according to the Tuesday release from Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Slightom drove a 1994 Pontiac (with the 38-year-old woman as passenger, who perished), which headed north on Knox Highway 15 when he failed to stop at a stop sign at about 2:15 p.m. March 1. A 2005 Chevrolet truck was traveling west on Knox Highway 4 when it struck the passenger side of the car. This caused both vehicles to go off the roadway to the north.
This crash is still under investigation.
