'I don't do a lot of these [events]. This is the first I've been in heels in a really long time!' Gina confessed, adding that tonight was the perfect excuse to get dolled up.

'It's been awhile, you know, after the pandemic people got very lazy and then I just directed my first movie and I was like, 'Great! I don't have to put makeup on for awhile!'

When asked to share how she's kept her confidence up in an industry that often breeds and feeds on insecurity and self-doubt, Gina explained that a strong sense of self is essential.

'The world is crazy and it's really important to stay grounded and kind of go with [the flow] and be whatever you need to fight away the negativity because it's everywhere,' she said.

'We all need to do that for each other. Because if we don't have a stability within ourselves, we'll get knocked down too easily.'

With an impressive decades-long career as a Hollywood actress, Gina was recently able to add 'full-length feature film director' to her resume.

She was approached by Lifetime executive producer Tanya Lopez to direct for the TV network, after having starred in Lifetime films in the past.

'I had never directed a whole movie, a whole 90-minute movie before' said Gina. 'And honestly, I was like, I don't know if Lifetime and me are the perfect fit because I have a tendency to be a little edgier.'

But, to Gina's surprise, Lopez was totally open to her vision.

'And [Lopez] was like, 'Do whatever you want,'' she recalled. 'So she sent me a story that I actually thought was interesting in today's world because it deals with gun violence and it deals with mental illness and it deals with kindness, more than anything else.'

Gina revealed that it was a 'really challenging situation' because she only have 13 days to shoot an hour-and-a-half film.

'It was really kind of crazy but it was a very interesting experience and I really loved it and I hope I get to do more,' she said, adding that she also had a 'wonderful cast that was supportive, so thank God for that!'

Gina was then asked to share her thoughts on fellow actress' Angela Bassett and Michelle Yeoh's big wins this awards season, including their recent Oscar nominations.

'I've been such a huge fan [of Angela] and Michelle Yeoh is like a goddess to me,' she gushed. [Michelle's] been my hero for so many years. And Angela Bassett is just incredible.

'And so, I guess I don't really look at what awards they have been given. I just think, "Oh my God, if only I could have a little bit of their career!!

'I think they are such incredible women, actresses, powerhouses.'

She also confessed that she's 'dying to work with Michelle' in the near future.

To conclude her time with DailyMail.com, Gina revealed that she recently wrapped the Eli Rock-directed film Borderlands which co-stars Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis.
